"Cin-City Chili"... is a winner?!?!

I know it's a shock to many who know me... but I *hate* Cincinnati Chili.  Nothing about it appeals to me... and I swear to you, I really really want to like it (mainly to get my in-laws and husband off my back about it! ha!)- but I just can't.  It grosses me out.

Why, you may ask?  Look at it!!!...
Ok, ok... I never saw the grossness of it until I cooked it.  But in reality, the part that grosses me out the most is the taste of cinnamon, cloves, all-spice and chocolate mixed in with ground beef and tomato sauce. The boiled ground beef part also weirds me out. Just not my cup of tea... call me crazy.

So it came as a shock, even to me, that I agreed to cook a big pot of Cincinnati Chili for a chili cook-off for Carden this past fall... and it came as a bigger shock when I didn't *hate* what the recipe produced.  Granted, I didn't like it... just didn't hate it.  It also got really good reviews for the cook-off at Carden.  Because of this, I agreed to make the chili again for the chili cook-off at Damien's work...

And guess what?  We won "best in category" (and no, the category was not "Cincinnati style chili") and Damien placed in the top 5 overall (and yes, there were more than 6 entries).

Skyline Chili still sucks, though (sorry dad-in-law).

Wow! Congrats! (And, I don't think I've ever even tried it... mostly because of how it looks!)

Wow! I am impressed and I definitely like Melissa! I guess I will just have to be happy with a daughter-in-law that dislikes one of my favorite foods.
