New Year's Resolutions... and a word of the year

I love Paula Deen... she is my culinary hero- and I truly love her as a mother, grandmother and friend (not my own mother, grandmother or friend... but how I see her interact in each of those roles, LOL).  But I was reading a quote from her the other day that took me by surprise- because I did not agree with it.  She says that instead of a New Year's Resolution, she "promises to try..."  Promises to try?  Come on Paula.  A goal is not something you try to do... I'll be a good geeky wife here and quote Yoda-

"Do, or do not.  There is no try."

Go in to your goals with the intention of DOING... not with the intention of trying.  Will you succeed 100% of the time?  Absolutely not!- is that ok?  YES!  But think positively... the outcomes will be so much better.

So that brings me to our word of the year...

A friend of mine suggested doing a word of the year... choosing a word as your moto- to guide you through your new year... and remind you of your overall goals.  I have a list of goals that I am still working on, but I sat down with Damien tonight and both of us decided on our words.

Damien's word of the year:

Amanda's word of the year:

I'm a huge fan of new beginnings... and I love creating goals for myself- but my problem is I don't always complete what I start.  I chose the word complete for a lot of reasons- but overall, I chose the word to remind me that my overall goal is completion... I want to look back at 2011 and see all that I accomplished.

Do you have a word of the year?  New Year's Resolutions?-- or dare I say, a "promise to try"?

Oooh, that is a good word. If I pick a word of the year, it will be that. And then I guess my real word should be 'copycat'. Ha!

Love the new blog design BTW - I might change mine

My word is "priorities" - after a book I'm reading ("The Art of Non-Conformity: Set Your Own Rules, Live the Life You Want, and Change the World") and a clip I saw of Dr. Phil on an OWN preview saying, "Make a list of your top 5 priorities." If you're not doing what's #1, stop in your tracks, and do it." (Or, something along those lines.) There will be some BIG changes in store for 2011, and I couldn't be more excited!
