Chalene Johnson's 30 Day Challenge

Those of you who follow me on facebook (which I think is pretty much all of you) know that I've been doing Chalene Johnson's 30 day challenge "to master organization and achieve your goals."  It sounds dramatic, but this challenge has seriously been life changing for me... and I am SO thankful that not only did I commit to COMPLETE the challenge, I also got a few of my friends (and husband) to do the challenge with me... and through the power of facebook I got some old high school & college friends, as well as some colleagues to participate too.  Today should have been my last day with the challenge, but because work and life got in the way, I took a few days off... but I never once strayed from the daily rituals Chalene recommends doing.

Because of this challenge Damien and I have made some very serious financial and personal decisions... and the decisions were made a lot easier because of some of the exercises we had done from the challenge. The daily challenges have encouraged such an amazing dialogue between the two of us.

It's also been a neat experience going through this challenge with two of my best friends, Lisa & Dawn...  we've been able to help each other with our goals and talk through some of our challenges.  Not only is it encouraging- it's motivating... and it reminds me daily how amazing my friends are.

SOOOO... the point of this blog post wasn't just to brag about how amazing I am and how great I've been doing on this challenge- but it is to ENCOURAGE you all to complete this challenge as well.  I get absolutely no "kick backs" by recommending this program... I just really believe in it.

So click HERE... and let me know what you think.

Perfect Sunday...

Started off the day with Aiden & Allison coming over to play... the two oldest boys had a great time- we actually saw very little of them thanks to the millions of Lego's in Deacon's room... and the two youngest played really well together downstairs.  Gosh, I don't want to jinx it, but it's REALLY nice to have playdates again that allow me to actually socialize with my friends and not the kids, LOL.

Dinner tonight was courtesy of The Barefoot Contessa (a personal favorite of mine)- "adult macaroni and cheese."  The highlight of the evening was, of course, garbage time... Zac now expects to be a part of the "fun," which makes the task take twice as long.  Then it was on to bathtime... and the boys did particularly well tonight- thanks to bubbles and dye for the water.

All in all, a pretty good Sunday... but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking a tiny bit forward to shipping everyone off to school and work tomorrow and enjoying my quiet house to myself.

I didn't feel like cooking... and neither did they.

... so it's off to McDonald's we go.  Most of the time when we eat out Zac is a LOT of work... but tonight he was doing pretty well.  There was fun music playing so he just hung out in the booth dancing almost the entire time.  Deacon was a great big brother and fed him every time he took a break from dancing... it helps that daddy told Deacon that he was "second in charge" while he was gone.

"That slippery vixen"

(100 points to the first person who can tell me what show I'm quoting in my title...)

We walked out of the room for all of 2 minutes... to come back to Zachary going through Damien's wallet- and Deacon egging him on.  Team work at its finest.

California days...

We are LOVING this weather... the boys played outside after what was supposed to be naptime (but ended up just being an hour of us fighting with them to sleep, followed by us giving up and dragging them outside to have real fun).  Deacon wanted to race Damien/Zac on his bike... I'll give you one guess as to who won every single time.

Out to eat...

How these two kids keep themselves entertained at a restaurant... Thank God for the Nintendo DSi... sort of makes us feel like we're only taking one kid out to eat with us sometimes ;-)

Zac sings the abc song

Nevermind the lovely spitting that happens throughout... and also please ignore the poor quality- it was taken on my iphone and it was pretty dark... I was laying down, and he was standing over me.

Anyway... Enjoy :)

A video only a Grandparent could love...

This is the video from Deacon's assembly today... Deacon has been practicing this MLK jr speech for a month now, LOL. Instead of just taping the MLK poem, Damien taped the whole assembly for your enjoyment... so please enjoy watching the children so willingly and happily sing the Carden song and say all 50 states and capitals- it's thrilling ;-)

Oh, and don't mind Deacon covering his face the entire poem... the sun was in his eyes! lol

Brazilian Blowout...

Ok, I know there is a ton of controversy out there about this procedure... but you know what?  I love this the end result way too much to care about the formaldehyde.  I did the brazilian blowout for the first time 3 months ago... I got a great deal from groupon (my second favorite website next to facebook) so I figured I'd go for it at least one time.  Oh.My.Gosh.  I loved the results... and it lasted for about 2 1/2 months.  Last week I made my second appointment for today- and I am not disappointed!!!  I love the ease of the straight hair the brazilian blowout produces...

But on a not so happy note... I dyed my hair the other night and it turned out WAY darker than I'm used to... in fact, instead of "dark brown" it was more like "a little bit lighter than dark black."  Yikes.  But the best news is that when I got the Brazilian blowout today my hairdresser stripped my hair and got a lot of the really dark black out... so I really like the color now!
Don't you LOVE my camera strap??!!  I can't get over how much I love it!

::sigh:: Brothers...

You know how I was saying how well they were getting along?
Cue God, upstairs, laughing hysterically...
We were having a really rough night... Damien was off bowling with his co-workers and I was home with Mr. Grumpalump (extreme) and Captain Whinerpants.  By the time Zachary was beating Deacon over the head with the measuring cups in the bathtub, all I could do was grab my camera and laugh hysterically... of course egging Zachary on.
... And thankfully- laughter seems to be contagious.
And peace was restored... for a few moments at least.

Lately these brothers have been really good friends... and I totally get why they're not best friends all the time- their age gap is a bit big... one wants to play with Legos by throwing them all over the room while the other is building intricate things like roller coasters and castles.  But lately?  They've been really playing... and I love it.  And I alway say something like, "awww, brothers..."- so Zachary will repeat me and say "awww bubbers..."  I love hearing them in the other room chasing each other... "Zachawee! Come chase me!"- to which Zac always responds, "Ok bubby!!!  Coming!"

I am absolutely in love with these boys... I love this house of boys I've got- and think I'm pretty lucky... most of the time.

Two things I love

This boy... and the blanket he's laying on- which, by the way, was homemade by my mom.  I realized that I never took a picture of it to show it off.  Isn't it beautiful?!?!  I absolutely LOVE how it turned out... I've been begging her for YEARS (seriously, years) to make me this kind of quilt and because she didn't like the style she kept saying 'no'- until her friend convinced her to do a small quilt in the style and she fell in love with it too.  So I got to pick out my fabric and this is the end result... so gorgeous.

We just can't cut it...

We cannot bring ourselves to cutting his hair... well, I am tempted to cut his bangs, but Damien nearly had a panic attack when I brought out the scissors to do so.  So every morning we have to put product in his hair and do it in such a way to keep it out of his eyes... which is fine.  But today we forgot... so Ms. Tanier & Ms. Christina took it upon themselves to come up with a solution... which Zachary actually loved.

See you soon, Nana...

Tonight is my mom's last night... and always, Zac is oblivious and Deacon is really sad.  I hate that broken hearted cry I hear coming from his room as my mom tucks him in for the last night before she leaves... he is just so upset that he won't see her in the morning (we leave for the airport around 5:30am), and that just makes everything seem so much worse.  I love how my mom is such a part of his life and his relationship with her is as if she lived next door... but it makes it all the more difficult for me as a mom- I have to look Deacon in the eyes tomorrow and know that it is my choice to stay here in California... keeping him away from his Grandparents.  And I know he loves it here as much as I do... but the day after Grandma leaves, he just doesn't understand.  He wants, so badly, to live in Ohio... and there is no convincing him that it would be SO much easier for his grandparents to move here as opposed to us relocating ;-)  I know that in a week things will be back to normal around here... and he'll be back to missing his Grandma like normal- which is a lot easier for me to deal with.

Zac's all time favorite Nana activity is sharing a bowl of Cheerios... he screams for "CEREAL" almost daily- and when he does that, this is what he wants.  He just loves "sharing" his cheerios with his Nany.

We got a fire pit!!!  I am SO excited... and so were the kids... though you would never know this by the looks on their faces.  They did have a good time roasting marshmallows... though neither of them liked the taste of the roasted marshmallow... so instead, they just kept lighting the marshmallows on fire and eating the raw ones.

Thanks for coming, Nana... we've loved having you here- thank you so much for all that you do... despite your criticisms about my incorrect blog wordings.  See you in 3 months...
And dad- thanks for letting us keep mom for so long :)

Because I didn't like the idea of having 666 posts...

I know, it's a superstition... and no, there is nothing wrong with the number 666... I just don't like it.  And when I saw I had 666 posts, I thought I would post something to get me to 667.

My mom got an email from my Aunt Chrissy asking about Deacon's hair... she likes it buzzed.  So i thought I would answer her directly on my blog... I love love love his hair long- and it's at this really awkward and not so great looking stage right now- we'll be cutting it soon, but I'm hoping to grow it out a bit and have him keep it longer.

Though... the other day he did tell me he was hoping I would cut his bangs "really short" so he could "show off" his brains.  Nice.

I leave you with a picture of Damien and Deacon today at the park near the farmers market (which is, by far, my favorite way to spend a Sunday morning... right after sleeping in)... they were on this little seat that went around in circles.  I thought it would be a fun idea to do it with Deacon on Damien's shoulders.  I come up with the BEST ideas.

Lazy Saturday

We woke up this morning and headed to IHOP (yes, Deacon went dressed in the exact outfit pictured here)... and then came back to rest- because going to IHOP is pretty tough work for two little ones on a Saturday morning.  The rest of the day didn't look much different than this... until Damien & I took my mom up on some free babysitting so we could go out for our {kid free} anniversary dinner.

Damien and I chose Dave & Busters... and I'll tell you what- those games are a million times more fun when you don't have kids pulling at you, screaming at you, and (best yet) you have a drink in one hand and tokens in the other.  Good times-- thanks mom!... and Happy {belated} Anniversary, Damien- it's been a pretty fun 7 years together ;-)

Because I think it's a cool picture...

Damien taking a picture of my new camera strap... given to me by my fabulous mother in-law and father in-law!  Pictures of the strap coming soon... I know you're excited :)

Oh Zachary...

Resting after his first day back at "school" (he's had over 2 weeks off!)...
"rest time" didn't last for too long

Grandma got the boys Whack a Mole...
and, of course, Zachary needs to use a hockey stick to play the game

Sometimes it would benefit {a lot} to look at a calendar...

- and do so before you wake up the baby, get him dressed and drive him to school... only to realize his daycare was closed today.  Yeah... that would be what we did today- and I'll tell you what... no one was happy about it- until, of course, Nana woke up and Zac came to the realization that a whole day with Nana to himself just might be better than a day with his other favorite people in the world.

And because this is our FAVORITE "Zac face"- I just had to post the picture... I've never got the full on face quite yet... but I'm getting close.  His pouty faces are seriously the funniest I have ever seen... and he does them all.the.time. (so one would think I could get it on camera- but I just never have my camera ready when he's doing it just right!)
