I find that when I'm gone a lot for work I come home and I'm glued to my camera... probably because I cannot get over how darn cute my boys are- and I keep thinking that everyone in the world should see what I'm seeing.
The past two days with work have been non-stop... I started yesterday (Thursday) at 6 a.m., was on the road by 7 a.m. and I finally pulled into my driveway around 11:30 p.m. Today (Friday) I was awake (again) at 6 and out the door (again) by 7... but thankfully I was pulling into the driveway, with two adorable little boys in the backseat, around 5 p.m.
The busy season is upon me... which means less sleep, more laundry (heck, when I'm working from home I just stay in my pj's all day... who cares if I'm answering the phone or writing emails while looking like I just rolled out of bed?), whiney boys who miss their mama, whiney ME because I miss my boys, more eating out (since I'm on the road who has time to pack breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner for on the road) and less sleep (did I say that already???). But I truly and honestly cannot complain (too much)... I am absolutely fortunate for the job I have. Not only am I employed, but I love what I do. I love working with students, parents (sometimes) and counselors. I believe in what I do and I am passionate about it as well...
So while I might be exhausted, I keep reminding myself of what I get to come home to at night... but I also remind myself of how lucky I am to have a job like the one I've got.
TEETH!!! He's got 4 teeth now... all on the bottom.
After dinner we all hung outside for a while- I, of course, brought my camera. Zachary was so uninterested in having his picture taken... he was way too busy turning around in circles on his blanket to get a full view of everything in the backyard. After turning in circles and smiling a few times he decided to take a little rest... I honestly thought he was about to fall asleep. So sweet.
I was so impressed with the outfit Damien picked for Zachary this morning... we just had to document it. (don't mind my "I just rolled out of bed" look... I have swine flu... or a migraine... we haven't figured it out yet... suffice to say I feel miserable)
How Zac spends most of his time at soccer practices and games... in Beth's arms :)
Zac & Ashlyn... BFFs
I promise, Damien isn't mad here... he just has to yell really loud for the kids to hear him :)
Damien and Nancy n'sync
Martin & Deacon
We won 6 to 4 (and the other team was short FIVE players- so we let them borrow a few of our players... and our players scored 2 of their 4 goals).
I'm so proud of my boys... Deacon actually played almost the entire game and did such a great job chasing the ball and actually kicking it well too! In the past he gets distracted/bored/tired and doesn't really go after the ball- but not today! He was a whole new boy :)
Damien and Nancy (assit. coach) are so great with the kids... this team of 4-6 year olds really look up to them and listen to them. It's so neat to watch. I've been to a number of practices, but this was my first game- and it was so cool to see the kids really follow direction and do so well.
The other team did great too- despite the fact that their head coach and 5 of their players didn't show up. Damien and Nancy were nice enough to let them borrow 2 of our players (our best player- Turner and our "not the worst but not the best" player- Deacon).
Overall, a great morning. All the kids had a great time and the Cracker Jacks remain undefeated ;-)
We all had a good time at soccer practice tonight- even Zac! Ashlyn was there to keep him company... and when she wasn't keeping him company she was eating his entire container of puffs and being entirely too cute.
Deacon is doing a lot better with soccer... he actually runs after the ball more now- though a lot of times he still just stands there and watches everyone run around him. I'm so proud of him :)
So, I know it was mentioned in at least one post that this year is the first year that Deacon is playing soccer. It also happens to be the first year that I am coaching soccer (after having last played in junior high school). Well, this past Saturday was our team's first game. Unfortunately, Amanda had to be out of town on work, so the photo's I'll post were generously provided by one of the other team parents (he actually sent us 55 pictures of Deacon).
Amanda and I were both kind of worried about this first game. At our last practice before the game, Deacon began to act as if he wasn't interested in playing at the game. And on Saturday morning, he seemed somewhat nonplussed. But once things got underway, Deacon loved it and even surprised me a little. Actually, the whole team surprised us. They've all be holding back at practice!
While the league doesn't officially keep score for the 'Under-6's, someone forgot to tell our official, because she did. We won the match, 6-0! And I was worried about a shutout in the other direction!
It was tons of fun, and we're looking forward to next week's game!

Tai Chi warm-ups maybe?
"Oh look, a soccer ball coming my way!"
Gotta stay hydrated!
Love those half-time snacks!
Some coaching from Assistant Coach Nancy
Deacon's pass that became an assist on Turner's shot on goal!
