Our little soccer player

Because my mom was able to stay home with Zac, I got to go to soccer practice with Damien and Deacon! Grandpa came too- and I think Deacon was a bit more excited about him being there than me.

I'm so proud of both Damien and Deacon. Deacon is the youngest player on his team- most of the boys and girls are 5. Deacon also has very little experience with sports... unfortunately for him, he has two parents who are not very sports inclined- so we've never gotten out and practiced with him. He's got a lot of learning to do... but for his age and the fact that he's never played before, I think he's doing so well.

As I've mentioned before, Damien hasn't played soccer since he was a kid... and he's never coached a team before either. I never thought I'd see the day, LOL. He and his Assistant Coach (Nancy... who has also never coached or played soccer) do such a great job with the kids. As my dad said- the amount of patience the two of them have is amazing... I know I couldn't do it!

Anyways... I'm a proud mama/wife, so I took a ton of pictures. I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot more of these throughout soccer season :)

California State Fair: FAIL

So we all went to the California State Fair today. It started off great... it was a perfect day- cool weather, nice breeze and happy boys... best of all- the fair wasn't crowded at all so early in the morning.

It was going great... until Deacon and I went down the "big slide." He insisted on holding my hand on the way down- which made him twist a little bit, so he put his hand down on the slide, causing him to get a friction burn. Yes, I know those aren't comfortable- but my child acted as though he was in need of an arm amputation. After many fights, lots of whining and much impatience on my part, we all packed up and left... which sucked because in years past, Deacon has done so well at the fair- and this year was going so well until that stupid slide. He's never wanted to ride the rides (too scared)... and this year he was actually interested in them. No one got to enjoy the yummy fair food either.

Blah. Cal State Fair '09: FAIL

(though I will say that I think Zachary did enjoy himself a lot more than any of us... I would have given my right arm to sleep through the whining)

Snack time

Grandpa, Deacon & Milo enjoyed snack time outside in the 103 degree heat...

Can't you tell he's sick?

Poor baby is sick with his first cold. I'll take a cold any day over the stomach flu... but man, this sucks. He's so congested and is having such a hard time breathing- especially when he's trying to sleep (key word here is "trying"). Thankfully he's relatively content while he's awake... though he is requiring a lot more attention than normal- but I think Grandma & Grandpa are ok with that.

Grandma/Deacon sleepover night

Grandpa coming in to scold Grandma and Deacon for being awake so late and for being so loud!

Um... why is my baby boy still awake at almost 9 p.m.?!?! That's right... it's Grandma sleepover night!

Notice the cookies in bed???- and the huge pile of books? I guess the huge pile of books isn't THAT big of a deal ;-)

He's so happy

What I get when I come in and suggest that maybe they try and go to bed soon...

Hide-N-Seek

Deacon is FINALLY getting that he should pick a hiding place other than under the table...

Please vote for us... again :)

Damien and I have never been on a vacation together since our honeymoon. Well, ok, we've been to Ohio to visit family- but I'm not sure that counts ;-) Anyways, I would love to win this vacation, so I'm begging you- please vote for us! You can vote once a day- I promise not to get too annoying with these reminders... ;-)

EDIT: We moved the voting widget to the right column so it stays on top. :-)

My little soccer player

I cannot believe my baby is old enough to be playing team sports like soccer. But he is, and he's loving it. He loves having daddy be his coach- and I think Damien might be enjoying it all too. Deacon is so pleased with his soccer shoes, his shin guards and all the cool new "soccer clothes" we bought (though he's not too excited to show them all off for the camera). Every time I see him getting ready for practice I'm just taken aback by how big he is... how grown up he seems.

And then I start to worry- if I'm this emotional over soccer, how in the world am I going to handle kindergarten??? I'm going to be an absolute mess. My nephew and niece just moved into the dorms at Texas Tech this past weekend... and I couldn't help but think about how quickly the years have gone by. I still think of these two as little kids!!! As much as I do love all the things Deacon gets to do now that he's older, it really makes me step back and wish that time would slow down a bit.

Zachary's first visit to Chuck E. Cheeses

Lucky him, huh? - and by the looks of this picture, it looks like he was having a blast!!! Thankfully he spent the majority of the time on my back, so he didn't touch too much, LOL. Deacon was in heaven- as we were walking in he says, "Oh wow, it's really Chuck E. Cheese! We're really here!!!" HAHA!

After a fun filled evening of good company, bad pizza, and fun games, we were all beat... and Zac is officially over tired- which is always a joy to deal with all night. But oh well- it was worth it. Anything for Chuck E. Cheese.

The day of parties...

Taylor's party was a gymnastics party- great way to tire them out a couple hours before bedtime!

Zachary enjoying Ashlyn's party

The daycare kids + Dustin

We had two birthday parties today- and thankfully they were at different times. While it was a really busy day for us, both boys did really well and we all had a great time.

Happy birthday Ashlyn & Taylor!!!

Brothers...

My Father-in-law, Thom, made this picture frame!!! I love it! He and my mother-in-law were trying to find a picture frame that said "brothers" on it, but could only find ones with sister, mother, father, etc... So instead of continuing the search, Thom made one for each of the boys! So cute.

Deacon loved his- I wish I had gotten a picture of his reaction... he was so pleased. We gave it to him while he was watching his movie right before bed- and he sat with the frame on his lap and kept looking at it and smiling. It was so sweet. I'm sure Zac loves it just as much- but he's not as vocal about it quite yet :)

Thanks guys... I love homemade gifts! The frames look so cute in their rooms!

Dear Ferber... I love you.

The title says it all. The man is my hero. In less than one week my child has gone from waking up 3-4 times (taking a 6 ounce bottle each.time) to waking up ONCE... yes, ONCE. And two nights ago he didn't wake up at all.

(yes, I'm knocking on wood...)

My child is happy, healthy and now sleeps well... he wakes up in the morning raring to go. When we go get him in the morning he is all smiles. And at daycare he goes to sleep on his own and takes two hour naps.

I am in love...

(and yes, Zac does have a bruise on his head... his crib aquarium thing fell on his head... he's fine- purple paci made it all better)

How all the cool kids take a bath...

I cannot find a bathtub that I like this time around... they all drive me crazy! So I figured - why not put Zac in the big tub? So I did and he LOVED it. He splashes around and giggles the entire time. Good move- and free. Can't beat that.

The only thing better than a fun bath is a fun bath with his favorite pink paci.

My new favorite diaper

... too bad I can't figure out how to use pins to keep it together, LOL. At least he's cute :)

It's Bananas B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

Loves to grab his feet... endless entertainment :)

This boy sure does love his bananas...

Poor thing is teething- so as much as he loves his bananas, he also loves putting his entire fist in his mouth and chewing... and then blowing raspberries (though I don't know if that's entirely associated with the teething... as much as it is just fun to make a huge mess with bananas).

He also is a master roller now... we put him on his back and he immediately flips to his tummy. It's adorable. Deacon never rolled over so I'm really impressed by this new trick :)
