A HUGE shout out to my friend Justin Akers at Studio VoxPop who took these pictures for us. Every year we take Deacon to get a yearly portrait and we figured we while we were doing this we would get a family picture too. Justin got some great shots of the kids and I love the ones he took of the 4 of us... Zac wasn't in a very smiley mood that day, but that's ok, he's still cute :)

Lazy day

Deacon trying to make Zac feel better about tummy time... he says, "Mommy, I think he needs me to make him feel better."

"I hate tummy time!!!"

Reading books with daddy

We had a very lazy, but fun, day today.

Yesterday on Blues Clues, Blue & Steve made orange juice popsicles... so Deacon wanted to make them too. So today we got up, went to the store and got the makings for homemade popsicles. Other than going to the grocery store, we stayed home all day and played... and took lots of pictures in the process :)

New mattress!!!

Hello from my new mattress!!!

Damien and I are officially old... we bought a Tem.purpedic mattress because we have bad backs and necks- and this mattress came highly recommended from my chiropractor and a bunch of other online sites promoting back health. So let's hope it works as well as people say it will... and let's hope I get used to it sooner rather than later. It's a very different mattress than what I'm used to- comfy, but different.

Anyways... on an entirely different note-

I am so proud of Deacon. He just completed his 4th week of swim lessons and I can now say that he is swimming on his own. He's no Olympic athlete, but he's able to jump in at the deep end and swim to us... and even better, he's able to swim back to the wall. He's got a long way to go- he still has trouble floating (gets scared after a while) and if he gets nervous or scared he starts to panic a little and then starts to go under. But for the most part, he is swimming- and really well for a 4 year old!!! The best part is that he loves it... it's never a chore to go to swim lessons and he loves his swim teacher.

In other Deacon news, he is officially signed up to play soccer in the fall... and because we missed the official deadline, Damien had to "volunteer" to be a HEAD coach. You see, they're short on coaches, so they said they would let Deacon play if Damien agreed to coach his team. Damien is excited, but a tad nervous... I can't say I blame him. Coaching a team of little kids while their helicopter parents watch your every move does not sound like my cup of tea!

Zac is doing great... as you can see by some of the more recent pictures, he's getting so big. He's trying so hard to sit up. He loves his little seat that helps him sit upright and gets mad when we make him lay down for too long. He's grabbing objects now and enjoys putting everything in his mouth. He's "talking" a ton now and for the first time tonight he actually did a big belly laugh (at Damien). We're very close to being done with nursing... initially during his nursing strike he was still doing well nursing in the middle of the night. Now his middle of the night feedings are increasingly lazier and unproductive. So I'm doing a lot of pumping and Zac is enjoying his bottle very much.

Well, it's time for bed... my new mattress is calling my name!

Me & Zac

Zac did not want to be put down tonight and things needed to get done- things that couldn't get done while holding a squirmy baby. So I strapped on the carrier and went about my business... Zac loved it! We haven't been in this carrier yet since he's always been too small, but it looks like it's a keeper now that he's all of 13 pounds :)

Father's Day!

We had such a nice day today... Damien's first Fathers Day gift was from the boys- they both slept in! Hooray! After waking up, Deacon and I made cinnamon/sugar pancakes- YUM! We had a really relaxing day and then this evening we went out for ice cream...

Happy Father's Day to all the amazing fathers I know... especially my own dad and father in law. We miss you guys a lot and wish we could be there with you today. LOVE YOU BOTH!!!

Top 10 Reasons Damien is a great dad

10. He recently volunteered to coach Deacon's little league soccer team... despite the fact that he has never coached before AND he hasn't played soccer since he was 10.

9. He gets up for all middle of the night feedings just to hand me the baby and change his diaper if needed.

8. Not only does he get up in the middle of the night, he stays up with me if I'm having a hard night.

7. He loves to teach Deacon new things and gets so excited when Deacon shows an interest in learning.

6. Many nights when Deacon is sick he'll stay up most of the night holding Deacon in the rocking chair since I can't sleep sitting up and he can (though not well).

5. He supports {almost} all of my new ideas on how to do things differently with Zac (i.e. cloth diapering, extended breastfeeding, non-circumcising, alternate vax schedule, etc...).

4. Everyday Friday he takes Deacon (and now Zac too) out for "daddy donut day" before they go to school.

3. He honestly cares about decisions concerning our kids... even though I do almost all of the research, he genuinely wants to know why we do what we do.

2. He cleans up pee from our kids who are running around (or laying around) naked... despite the fact that he has asked me a million times to keep a diaper on them so we don't have to clean up pee.

1. Everything is split 50/50... no matter what and without question. And this is the number one reason that Damien is a great dad... he loves being a dad and is always involved.

Happy Fathers Day, Damien... I love you more than anything. I hope you had a great day.

Deacon and Taylor got to play all afternoon... it's so funny with the two of them because you have two extremes- one who wants to play princesses and the other who wants to play super heroes. It's always fun to listen to their conversations and see what games they play...

Two cute

There is nothing in this world that I love more than seeing how much Deacon genuinely loves Zac...

<3 Love him!!!

*WARNING* Do not read if you get grossed out by toenail injuries

I seriously have the strangest child...

A couple days ago we were on our way into the gym for swim lessons... Deacon wasn't wearing any shoes and he opened the door really fast over his toe. There was blood everywhere and the toenail was actually lifted off his skin (::cringe::). Oh my gosh I about passed out, LOL. Thankfully the people at Cal Fitness were super nice and helped us put a bandage/wrap over it and we headed off to Urgent Care. Deacon was so brave... but here's where the strange child part comes in- Deacon had so much FUN at Urgent Care. They gave him a balloon, let him see his x-ray's, gave him tons of attention, etc... he thought all the medical equipment was super cool too. He did, however, freak out everytime he saw the blood on his foot. As we were leaving he said he wanted to hurt himself tomorrow so we could come back and have more fun.

Boys. I better get used to it.

I just want to take a minute and say "Thank you" for all the support so many of you have given me since Zac was born... between his colic, reflux and now these breastfeeding issues, I have received so many emails, blog comments and phone calls with advice and support. I think it's so cool that people I don't even know read this blog and can help me out... Sometimes it's just nice to know I'm not alone with these issues.

Breastfeeding is something that did not come easily to me at all with Deacon... I exclusively breastfed him for one month and then started formula. He was completely weaned by his 4 month birthday. The entire 4 months of breastfeeding was rough... I was miserable and I never got the hang of it entirely. With Zac it was SO much easier from day one... no issues whatsoever... until about a month ago. Then we get thrush... and it seems like right when that cleared up he decided to go on his nursing strike. He's now at a point where he'll nurse in the middle of the night- but other than that he insists on the bottle. So I'm pumping a LOT.

I can honestly say that I do not LOVE breastfeeding. I love the time I spend with him while I'm nursing him and absolutely love the snuggles he gives when he's eating... but ultimately I'm breastfeeding him for the health benefits. My goal is to keep him exclusively breastfed until his 4 month birthday and then take it day by day... I'd love to do it longer, but we'll see.

Anyways... the point I'm trying to make is that this all would be so much harder if I was doing it alone... and I honestly don't think I would have made it this far without the support of friends and family. So thank you to all of you who have offered your moral support, your advice and your own personal stories...

My favorite boys...

Little Miss Allison

Is she not the cutest thing???!!! I was having fun with my new camera and the fact that she was being so adorable :)

Have I mentioned lately how much I *LOVE* my new camera and new lens?!?

Playdate fun

Last weekend Deacon and I went over to Dawn's house for a little playdate... which turned into a bigger playdate when Lisa dropped her girls off so she and Greg could go test drive cars. The kids had a lot of fun playing together... I absolutely love this age because despite the fact that there were only two adults and five kids, it was very little work- they entertain themselves! The hardest part was making lunch... and we all know how hard it is to put some pizza in the oven and put straws in milk boxes :)

I've got a green thumb!!!

I am seriously beyond pleased with myself...

Last year we grew some tomatoes and they did really well... it gave me the confidence to grow a bigger garden this year. So this year we planted a ton of stuff- pumpkin, melons, strawberries, beans, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. They've all taken off so well!!! The watermelon is really slow to grow, but in the past week it's doubled in size. The pumpkin and cantaloupe are taking over the area where they're growing and the pepper plants are HUGE! I was so excited to notice a ton of peppers on our plants the other day. Our tomato plant (a "Mr. Stripey") is doing GREAT... I think these tomatoes are so pretty and I hear they're really tasty.

So anyways, I know not too many care about my garden update, but this is what you get for now! I'll have some pics of the boys up later tonight or tomorrow!
